Workflow Notes / Lightroom 2.0 Beta

3 April, 2008 (12:11) | Canon 40D, cameras, film, digital workflow... | 6 comments

Stumbled across these “workflow”notes from March. I don’t remember writing them; but they seem accurate. I am often asked about my “workflow,” so this may be helpful. Personally, although it looks like my handwriting, I’m not able to decipher all of it.
At any rate - what you’re seeing is mostly the result of the camera […]

Digital Transition = Dough

25 February, 2008 (00:52) | black and white photography, cameras, film, digital workflow... | 6 comments

Digital Phase II:
I splurged today on:
- WD MyBook 2 TB External Drive (that brings me up to something like 6 TBs of external storage).
- Firewire powered hub (8 sockets)
- 2nd 4 GB CF card (I’ve actually never gone through one card yet in a day)
- 20mm f2.8 Canon USM lens(I’ve owned this before. […]

Lightroom Gallery

21 February, 2008 (14:03) | New Yorkers, POD Photo Books, Blurb, VioVio, SharedInk, MyPublisher, cameras, film, digital workflow... | 9 comments

I’ve been fooling around with Lightroom as a way to create galleries. I’m working my way towards figuring out if there’s a way to modify it to use Paypal.
But this is an example of how a photograph happens, almost in real time. I was walking by Starbucks. Noticed this man behind the […]

Dog Washing Service

Am using Lightroom more and more. The most recent discovery is that with a little bit of planning, you can use one file size to do all your prints. This is what I’ve been testing today. Starting with say an 8 x 12 which has had all the tweaks done in Lightroom […]

Sigma DP1

15 February, 2008 (02:31) | cameras, film, digital workflow... | 10 comments

Yes - the camera is supposed to be out soon, and Dpreview took some shots with a prototype at the last photo fair.  So a couple of things struck me:
1: The lens is F4.  That’s just not fast enough for street work.
2: Esp. since the maximum ASA is 800.  Is that true of the chip […]

Jogger, Reservoir - 2008

7 February, 2008 (19:08) | Central Park Photography, cameras, film, digital workflow... | 9 comments

As requested - some brief workflow notes:
I’ve tried just about everything for conversion to b&w over the years with various plug-ins, and varying results.
This is a big subject that I’m planning to write up when I get a chance but here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
1: The […]

Question for You - Digital Storage

6 February, 2008 (23:55) | cameras, film, digital workflow... | 11 comments

What do you recommend for archiving files while you’re out in the field (or wherever). What do you even call the device - where you could store say 60 GB (more is better), transfer is quick from the CF card to the portable storage device, you don’t need electric outlet to do it and […]

Giants, Halftime, 40D Sigma f1.4

4 February, 2008 (13:19) | Canon 40D, cameras, film, digital workflow... | 11 comments

I went a step further into digital (oh you knew this was coming) and bought the Canon 40D with the 30mm Sigma f1.4 lens. This was shot at f1.4 @ 1600 ASA. The 40D and recent Canons are completely usable at 1600. The 30mm is actually the only lens I have […]
