Woman on Subway

I did some tests yesterday to determine how large I could go with images from the 40D. I’d say that 20 x 30 inches is about the max before too many artifacts are introduced. (ProZoom II). I’m being a little bit picky with this evaluation - yes - serious pixel-peeping. I have in fact done two prints that were larger for a client and no complaints. But I would feel more comfortable with an extra 6 mp or so.
12 x 18’s are no problem at all.
As far as this image — the Q Train and most of the trains to Coney Island eventually emerge above ground. If you catch the train at the right time the light pours in and there are interesting lighting opportunities. This was with the 30mm. You don’t need to worry as much these days about the “sound” of the camera since just about everyone in the city is plugged in.

Can’t afford the Mark stuff; and would like to stick with my cropped sensor (like it with the 30mm sigma which this shot was taken with - you can imagine how close I was); so I’ll just wait for the 45D or 50D or whatever is coming next.

Street photography to classic portraiture in a single bound. Yes!

Great photo, Dave! You probably won’t have to wait long, as the 40D now has a $200 instant rebate and the body is about $940 on Amazon.com .
This is an almost sure sign that the next model is around the corner.
Best regards,

Steve - I really hope so! Main thing is just more of those pixel thingies
Otherwise, wouldn’t change a thing with the 40D.

There is Canon 5 D and Mark series or Nikon D 3 but I wonder if the costs justify the additional MPs.
