It’s true - if I’m going to shoot this sort of thing I should’ve used a waterproof housing; unless there’s a Canon out there that really is waterproof.

Dave, The Canon professional cameras, the 1D and 1Ds have water-tight seals, allowing use in adverse conditions. But then, they cost A LOT MORE!

Brent - I’ll let you know when I pick up a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III ($8K). I will also leave instructions to have me escorted to the mental hospital :)

But you know what would be cool, if you could lease high-end cameras, and then return them after a year or two for the next model (i.e. what some people do with high-end cars).

Normally, when I’m shooting in the rain I use an umbrella - but I was playing with the long tripod and there was no way to have an umbrella that high. So I learned my lesson. I wonder how much this will cost to fix. It is still under warranty but even though they say in their promotional literature that it is “weather-resistant” they don’t back this up in their warranty. In other words - I didn’t go swimming with it.

Perhaps you should consider becoming a member of Canon Professional Services. They offer loaner equipment, consultations and quicker repairs for members. Evidence of professional stature is required. I have had to use them on a couple of occasions. They will also service your cameras–a check up–usually for free. I accidently fogged my sensor once using bottled air to blow dust off it. I sent it in. They cleaned it and checked the camera over. Sent it back in less than 24 hours. Cost–nothing.

You might want to look into CPS membership.

Brent - magnificent idea. I found a form with various requirements online but will call them first to make sure it’s the current one. Exactly what I was looking for and had no idea it existed. I couldn’t find a site for CPS in the U.S. but as I say did find email and phone number. Will see if it’s current. Thanks!

CPS is managed in the New Jersey repair facility. I think if you call their 800 number, one of the voice menu options is for CPS members. You can e-mail them about membership services at cpsmember@cusa.canon.com.
