MARY POPPINS, DAWN 2008
Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down… This was our favorite musical growing up. Me and my sisters listened to this non-stop. I know it’s subtle, but I was happy to find a guy sweeping outside the theatre.
Also the old musicals like Oklahoma, Flower Drum Song - you name it.
My parents brought us to shows like Three Penny Opera when we were ten years old. In other words - we were exposed to tons of musical theater as kids.
We also had records with the romantic narrations of the great European composers: Franz Liszt. We’d fall asleep listening to how poor Franz Liszt died as the music swelled. No wonder that we grew up loving the more macabre musicals like Sweeney Todd. (I haven’t seen the movie. Hard for me to picture Johnny Depp as Sweeny, but I will - promise).

That’s nice of them to give Dick Van Dyck something to do around the theater.
