Fruit

3 March, 2008 (18:12) | abstract, who knows

fruit_1924 FruitWhen I first saw them, I didn’t know what they were. After a few viewer responses, and my own investigation in the supermarket the secret can be told: avocado pits.

Also.

I’ve been having such a good time shooting,

that I’ve fallen behind with getting orders out.

Sorry.

Tomorrow - printing all day. I promise.

What happened to your site? I am getting a strange brown site, without visible pictures unless I click on them.

It’s hard to say because their is no size reference. My first thought was that they looked like buckeyes. Buckeyes are about an inch to inch and a half in diameter, brownish color with a lighter brownish color where the nut was attached to the tree.

I like the new site. But with the color, I’m expecting … well … color photos.–Brent

I’m guessing they are avocado seeds (stones?) the slice mark on the bottom seed is the giveaway. Thats where the avocado has been halved, probably. Nice shots by the way, right up my cul-de sac as they say in the UK.
I’m particularly interested in the tonality and contrast in your images. Are you post processing to a great degree or do you have a secret receipe. I am scaling the learning curve of B+W and appreciate any help along the way, solicited or not.
Keep on doing what you’re doing

Lee

Yes, they’re avocado pits; I realized that when I was in the supermarket yesterday looking at the avocados.

My b&w conversion is almost entirely through Lightroom. I believe that with a couple of “presets,” just about anyone can do as well if (and this is a big if) they’ve got the idea in their head of what they want the print to look like. I don’t have any magic recipe and for the most part, these recent images that were done with the 40D have not had a lot of post processing work which is one reason I like this system; and one reason I’ve been able to post as often as I’ve been doing lately.

Dave, this kind of image just bring quiet mood to my soul. This is surely image I would hang in my room.
Calm, soft and for me very melancholic.

AAAH! Pits thats the right word, thanks. Thanks also for enlightening me to the qualities of lightroom. Do you not miss anything from Photoshop, layers for example?

What I still need Photoshop for is if a mask is required. You can’t do that in Lightroom. So quite often I will do 90% of the work in Lightroom, and go into Photoshop to do some masking. Back into Lightroom to print or prepare that image for the web blog. — DB
