Well, at any rate, I’ve been having as much fun as this guy. Sure - 3200 - I haven’t figured out whether to have in-camera NR turned on or off for shots at this ASA. Will have to do a bit more systematic experimentation.

For most cameras, if you shoot RAW, the in-camera noise-processing setting is tagged as info that can be read by Canon’s RAW conversion software (where it can be reduced or increased), but will be ignored by Lightroom or another RAW converter. Turning off the NR won’t make a difference on RAW files read into a third-party RAW converter. Should be the same on the 40D.
