Stephen what you say is very true. New Yorkers aren always in motion. Mu;ti-tasking is the rule rather than the exception.

Stephen - thanks. When it comes to myself - the one thing that I know for certain is that I don’t know anything for certain.
Not to be too cute - but that’s really true. Curiosity means that you don’t know where you’re going next; or what tools you’ll be using.
I don’t get hung up on it anymore - other than to say this is where I am now - I don’t know where I’ll be tomorrow.
But on a practical matter, Lightroom was the catalyst this time. It gave me an intuitive way of dealing with digital files and the ability to do some highlight rescuing that I didn’t do very well with Adobe Camera Raw.

Hi All:
I tried Lightroom by downloading the trial version. I opted to stay with the new Nikon software, Capture NX. Its fairly easy to use and also is non-destructive. I use it to edit the photos, some white balance adjustments and than to save as a tiff. The rest of the editing I am doing in Photoshop CS with the Alien Skin Exposure and Photo Retouche plug-ins for black and white conversions. The NX software does convert to B&W but it does not have the degree of control that the plug-ins have. For printing I have used SI Pro 2 by Fred Miranda. It has most of the features of PhotoZoom 2

Dave,
I have trialled Lightroom twice and loved it both times because of its intuitive front end. I will most probably buy it and, suspect once I do, I may well stop using Bibble Pro which is my RAW editor of preference for Olympus files, and which sadly won’t process those from my Fuji compact.
In fact I suspect the combination of Lightroom and CS3 may well be the perfect combo. At the moment I’m snowed in far from home in Istanbul on a laptop though, so no upgrades until I return home.
Go well Dave,
Stephen

Stephen - it’s rare that I have such a strong positive reaction to a piece of software - but that was the case with Lightroom. Love at first click.
The more I use it - there are still some areas to be explored - the more I like it. The paradigm of a darkroom, only light, is carried through into the interface. That’s what I am caught up by.
I am not only using it for organizing and finding things (what I was using iView for), but of course for “developing,” and now even for “printing.” Which is to say that I become more dependent on it, so I have a good backup of the catalogs going on.
Anyway - stay warm. I’m waiting and hoping for at least one more good snow before winter’s over.

Someone once told me that an hour in New York was worth a day in London, and a week in Istanbul. It’s all about pace.
Look how fast things move. Just a month ago you wrote in a comment:
“Trent - I’m so far away from digital capture right now that I’m the wrong one to ask. If anyone wants to recommend something here - fine - but I guess dpreview or one of the digital camera sites would be better since they are filled with reviews - opinions etc. One piece of advise would be — what sort of shooting do you want to use it for? Without knowing that - no one can give any sort of valuable advice.”
And two digital cameras later you’ve created nearly 40 posts on digital capture. Formidable!
